As America gears up to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Guilford and Alamance Counties are stepping into the Revolutionary spotlight this month. Travels with Darley: North Carolina Revolutionary Road Trip will air on PBS beginning Feb. 8, bringing the Triad’s Revolutionary history to audiences nationwide.
Filmed last summer, the episode follows host Darley Newman as she explores North Carolina’s Revolutionary roots, including stops in Guilford and Alamance Counties. The episode begins at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, where viewers learn about the pivotal role the March 15, 1781, battle played in the Revolution. The episode also highlights Greensboro’s other revolutionary eras, including its Jeansboro and Civil Rights history, with stops at Revolution Mill, Blue Denim, the Proximity Hotel, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, and more.
The journey continues about half an hour east at Alamance Battleground, where, on May 16, 1771, more than 2,000 Regulators – farmers – fought against government corruption, taxation, and inequality. Darley’s adventure also took her to the Saxapahaw General Store for a taste of their signature Duck Jam Burger, before heading east for more Revolutionary adventures.
