Philanthropist Donates to Local Track Clubs

Two local athletics clubs have received a donation from The Pompey Foundation that includes training gear, sneakers, spikes, groceries, and foot care items.
The presentation was made to Morne Stars Athletics Club and Sprint Tech this past weekend.
Founded and led by former middle distance runner John Pompey, who is based in the USA, The Pompey Foundation was conceptualised to provide support for the island’s emerging athletes. In the past, the foundation has hosted the Pompey Golden Mile Series and has donated to Saint Lucia Athletics Association (SLAA) affiliates including Survivors and Road Busters.
“We hope that this donation will be well received by the clubs and their members,” said Pompey. “We trust that as the track and field season gets underway in January, this donation will go a long way in terms of making athletes better prepared.”
Pompey noted that in addition to the items for competition and training, it is important to keep in mind that a number of emerging athletes do not have access to proper nutrition. This, he said, guided his decision to include groceries as part of his contribution.
