This year so far, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) recovered over 68 illegal guns from people in conflict with the law and confiscated more than 1239 rounds of ammunition. Acting Police Commissioner Verne Garde made the disclosure Tuesday. “All of these are significant successes that, had it not been done, could have been additional lives,” Garde declared. Garde spoke at a ceremony to officially hand over three new vehicles to the RSLPF. He expressed gratitude for the vehicles, stating that the RSLPF is adopting a proactive approach to police management. “In this time of flux and change, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force will rebrand and make its reputation,” the Acting Police Commissioner told the ceremony. His remarks came amid a sharp spike in deadly gun violence. Garde noted that over the past two years, the RSLPF has seen significant investment in national security, including equipment and infrastructure, for which he applauded the government. “We have seen the most monumental investment in training over the respective period and that in itself, in my opinion, is a registration of a good national security environment,” he stated.
