The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has divulged information concerning a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place in Choiseul on Monday. The official statement reveals that the event transpired at approximately 11:25 a.m. on August 18, near Devil’s Bridge, where a police officer was approached by an individual wielding both a cutlass and a knife, accompanied by his son. Following a tumultuous confrontation, the officer discharged his service weapon, resulting in the assailant suffering fatal injuries. The man was subsequently rushed to St Jude Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, although his identity remains undisclosed. Sources indicate that he may have been experiencing mental health challenges. Additionally, the officer involved sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving treatment at St Jude, with plans for surgery anticipated in the future.
