La’Andre Thomas, a former athlete for the Memphis Tigers, is currently under investigation following an incident in which he allegedly brandished a firearm at law enforcement, resulting in his death during an officer-involved shooting in Georgia last week. He was just 27 years old. The Sandy Springs Police Department responded to a call around 10:30 AM on December 4th, initiated by a 911 report of a man physically assaulting a woman while she walked her dog, as detailed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Upon locating Thomas at a nearby bus stop on Dunwoody Place, officers recognized him from surveillance footage. Reportedly, Thomas approached the officers and engaged them in conversation before allegedly reaching for a weapon concealed in his waistband. During this encounter, an officer discharged their weapon, injuring Thomas, who later succumbed to his injuries in a nearby hospital. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the GBI.
