Rapid City Police Department Intensifies Patrols and Makes Arrests Amid Gunshot Incidents

{KXLG – Rapid City, SD} In response to a rise in reported gunshots throughout Rapid City, the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) reports it has intensified its patrol efforts to address these reckless incidents. The department is deploying extra patrol resources to hotspot areas across the city, aiming to respond to gunshot calls and apprehend those responsible promptly.
These saturation patrols have already yielded significant results. During a recent proactive enforcement effort, nine additional officers were deployed overnight, resulting in 14 traffic stops, eight subject stops, six warrant arrests, and two DUI arrests.
The RCPD is calling on the public to help prevent gunshot incidents by being proactive. Vehicle burglary is a common method for criminals to obtain firearms, so gun owners are urged never to leave firearms in unoccupied vehicles. Additionally, parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s whereabouts and activities, as youth are often involved in these incidents.
The department remains committed to identifying and apprehending individuals who engage in such dangerous behavior, emphasizing that these actions can have serious and life-changing consequences.
