Reds’ Greene a generational pitcher

The Reds are not having the greatest of seasons. Let’s just be honest. They’re 53-58 and 9 games out. They still are in the race for the wild card berth but hanging by a thread. One of the biggest reasons the team still has a fighting chance is the emergence of Hunter Greene. Greene has now turned out to be the pitcher the Reds thought he would be when he was drafted first overall in the 2017 draft.
Cincinnati has often made their mark with position players. Very rarely does the team have drafted and groomed pitchers that make their mark in the league. Johnny Cueto was the last superstar pitcher drafted, groomed, and excelled by the team. When Cincy got the chance to grab a superstar pitcher who throw 100 mph it was not a hard decision for the team to grab him quickly.
In the beginning it was not an easy road for the Reds’ ace. Injuries, setbacks and inconsistent performances preceded the emerging star. Greene would cement himself in the majors in 2022. As with most young players he found the going rough. He finished 2022 with a 5-13 record and 4.44 ERA....
