Rest In Power: Notable Black People Who Have Died In 2023

Famous Chicago artist Richard Hunt has died at the age of 88, which AP confirmed. According to a statement posted on his website, Hunt “passed away peacefully” at his home on Dec. 16, although no cause of death was immediately reported.  Hunt was the first Black sculptor to receive a solo retrospective at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art. He was arguably one of the more influential artists of our generation. During his career, Hunt created more than 160 public sculpture commissions in 24 states and Washington, D.C., according to his website. His sculptures have been displayed all across America, including in at libraries and college campuses.
