Famous Chicago artist Richard Hunt has died at the age of 88, which AP confirmed. According to a statement posted on his website, Hunt “passed away peacefully” at his home on Dec. 16, although no cause of death was immediately reported.  Hunt was the first Black sculptor to receive a solo retrospective at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art. He was arguably one of the more influential artists of our generation. During his career, Hunt created more than 160 public sculpture commissions in 24 states and Washington, D.C., according to his website. His sculptures have been displayed all across America, including in at libraries and college campuses. The Chicago native was a staple in the art community for over seven decades and his contributions to the art world will never be forgotten.  RIP to sculptor Richard Hunt, the first Black artist to have a solo exhibition at the MoMA in New York back in 1971, at age 35.
