Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Scales expressed apprehensions regarding voting machines during Tuesday's mayoral election, as reported by county officials. This marked Scales' second unsuccessful attempt for the Birmingham mayoralty. At her Election Night Watch Party hosted at The Link on Huffman Road, she indicated, “We’re scrutinizing the situation, observing specific trends.”According to unofficial results, incumbent Mayor Randall Woodfin secured a third term with 24,559 votes, representing 74.87% of the total, while Scales placed second with 4,781 votes, or 14.5%. She also finished as the runner-up to Woodfin in the 2021 election, where she congratulated him during her Watch Party, noting, “We’ll investigate certain polling information as we continue.”County officials reported that approximately twelve machines were reset as a precaution, despite not identifying any significant issues. Over 32,800 voters participated across 134 machines in 67 precincts, with Woodfin winning all, including those in Scales’ commission district. In her addresses, Scales commended her volunteers and acknowledged the challenges of her late campaign announcement. (District Photo: Jccal.org)
