The National Committee for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (NCPADD) St Lucia will host its World No Tobacco Day March and Rally on Friday, May 31.
The event will occur at Babonneau from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
According to the NCPADD, over 150 students from Babonneau will march against tobacco and secondhand smoke.
Joining the cause, a contingent from the Saint Lucia Red Cross and members of the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps will also be present.
The organisers have disclosed that students will assemble at the Cabiche gap from 10:30, and, escorted by officers of the Babonneau Police Station, march to Aplough Supermarket and then to Babonneau Primary School for the rally at 11 am.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), worldwide, an estimated 37 million children aged 13–15 years use tobacco.
WHO and the Tobacco Watchdog group STOP released a report last week highlighting how the tobacco and nicotine industry designs products, implements marketing campaigns, and works to shape policy environments to help them make addicts of the world’s youth.
