Throughout his life, he secured 65 patents for pioneering electrical and communication innovations, including an advanced telephone transmitter that intrigued the Alexander Graham Bell Company. The Cincinnati Catholic Tribune hailed him as an unparalleled inventor.1872—Charlotte E. Ray makes history as America’s first Black female lawyer. A gifted scholar, Ray earned her law degree by age 22 but faced discrimination that forced her to pivot to teaching. She passed away on January 4, 1911.
