SLASPA Urges Citizens to Collect Goods at Castries Port

The Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA) is urging citizens to collect their cargo at the port in Castries. SLASPA’s Director of Seaports, Adrian Hilaire said while the port is working to ensure Saint Lucians receive their cargo before Christmas, public cooperation is crucial to achieving this goal. “…The only way we can do it is if people come for delivery. So during the day, we serve the public, and at nighttime, our staff will be emptying containers. And for us to be able to serve the customers, you must come for your cargo,” he said. Chief of Port Police, Kennedy Francis addressed the logistical challenges involved in people driving into the port to collect their goods. “The port, as you could recognise, is bounded by the city. And there’s not a lot of space to move around as well. So you find sometimes we have to inadvertently turn persons away from the port because we just do not have the operational space.  “Allowing them into the port would create more of a challenge for us, more of a safety and as well as a security issue. So these are some of the issues that we have,” he said....
