Every Sunday at 122nd and Seventh Avenue, the doors of the Christian Parish for Spiritual Renewal welcome worshippers, but last Sunday marked a noteworthy occasion. Pastor Rev. Ron Sullivan, 59, shared his final sermon before the church’s 70th anniversary gala. “I can say trust in God because I’ve seen people in this church trust in God,” Sullivan remarked. Despite challenges, including near closures, the church has persisted, focusing on its community rather than its struggles. Also known as a “family church,” it honors cornerstone families—Rowe, Cunningham, Feimster, and Moses—during the anniversary festivities culminating on November 14 at the Harlem School of the Arts. Founded by Rev. Eugene Callender in 1955, the church has played a pivotal role in community service, leading initiatives like the Harlem Mothers & Fathers SAVE. With ongoing commitment, Rev. Sullivan emphasizes the importance of supporting those in need while celebrating the vibrant legacy this intimate congregation continues to foster.
