Remembering Lorenzen Wright: Tragedy, Talent, and the Murder That Shook the League

Lorenzen Wright departed from the University of Memphis in 1996 to embark on a professional basketball career in the NBA. While opinions varied regarding this choice, Wright opted to enter the draft, ultimately securing the seventh overall selection by the Los Angeles Clippers. His emotions were mixed; exhilaration accompanied his achievement, yet disappointment lingered, considering the Clippers' notorious reputation at that time.Over the course of 13 seasons, Wright showcased his skills with several teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks, and the Clippers, establishing himself as a reliable big man in the league. Tragically, on July 28, 2010, Wright’s remains were discovered in a marshy area in Memphis after disappearing on July 18. In a grim turn of events, his ex-wife, Sherra Wright, admitted to her involvement in his murder conspiracy in 2019 and is now serving a 30-year prison term in Memphis.
