Chalermchai was impressed by their improved skills and the quality of their work. CHIANG RAI, Thailand – A group of street artists have earned praise and a reward from renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat for their graffiti art on a wall near the iconic Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) in Chiang Rai province, Jan 13. The graffiti mural, stretching over 25 meters, caught the eye of Chalermchai, the National Artist who designed and built Wat Rong Khun. He publicly sought out the three young artists to commend their work and offer them a reward. This is the second year that Chalermchai has allowed street artists to express their creativity on the wall opposite the temple’s parking lot. Last year, three young men created a mural there. Earlier this year, they returned and added new graffiti, complete with signatures and a phone number. Chalermchai was impressed by their improved skills and the quality of their work. He believes that providing recognition and encouragement will inspire young artists to create art in appropriate spaces, contributing positively to society and nurturing the next generation of artists.
