Streets temporarily closing Jan. 20 for MLK Day events in two Sacramento areas

Special to The OBSERVERMany people will be gathering to participate in local events honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 20.For the safety of participants and residents, please be aware that street closures will be occurring to accommodate the route of the march for each event.March for the DreamThe march kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Oak Park Community Center (3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.). This portion of the march, called the Extra Mile, will gather community leaders and residents for an early ceremonial start to the march.The official start of the march will begin at approximately 9:15 a.m. at Sacramento City College, (3835 Freeport Blvd.). Participants are expected to meet between the college and Hughes Stadium.Street closures will occur along the following:13th Avenue between Freeport Boulevard and Land Park Drive
Land Park Drive between 13th Avenue and Broadway
Broadway between 16th Street and Freeport Boulevard
Freeport Boulevard between Broadway and Sutterville RoadFor participants who park near Sacramento City College or the Oak Park Community Center, SacRT will provide free light rail service to and from the Sacramento City College station.
