Student injured in shooting on campus of WSSU

A student at Winston-Salem State University was injured after a gun went off inside a residence hall earlier this week.   The incident occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Covington Resident Hall. According to officials, a male student was injured and was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. It was determined that a weapon was fired but it was not deliberate.  Following the shooting, Winston-Salem State University released the following statement:   “The Winston-Salem Police Department is actively investigating the incident that occurred inside Covington Residence Hall on Feb. 12 at Winston-Salem State University. We are relieved to report that the victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, is recovering. … The safety and well-being of our campus community remain our top priority. This was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to campus safety. We understand that incidents like these can cause concern and anxiety, and we are here to support everyone affected. The possession of a weapon on university property is a violation of state law, North Carolina Statute #14-269.2, and goes against our code of conduct.
