NASHVILLE, TN – The Sylvan Heights Neighborhood Association is thrilled to announce the completion of its mural on the historic CSX railroad underpass on 37th Avenue North. This transformative public art project, funded by an FY24 Metro Arts Thrive Award, brings vibrant imagery to an iconic gateway that has stood as a cornerstone of the community since 1920. The mural, created by Stephen Sloan, owner and creator of Never Xtinct, and his wife and creative partner Alex Sloan, celebrates the unique essence of Sylvan Heights. As a former resident of the neighborhood, Stephen brought a deep connection to this project, capturing the spirit of the community through thoughtful imagery. The artwork features characteristic rolling hills that define the neighborhood’s landscape; a graceful ballerina honoring the Nashville Ballet, which is located nearby; the beloved community cats that embody its unique character; and a spectrum of colorful houses celebrating the neighborhood’s diversity and charm.
