The Truth They Tried to Erase: Untold Histories That Still Speak Loudly

(Sierra Club) – The heritage of my family in antebellum Southern Virginia concluded with the death of my grandmother, Mamie Todd, at 105. Born in 1916, she advocated for Black educators against segregation and supported my mother’s significant efforts in school desegregation. Sadly, the Trump administration seeks to obscure such histories, revising National Park Service pages that confront slavery's brutal truths. By diminishing crucial narratives, they jeopardize our shared memory. This is not simply maintenance; it’s a deliberate strategy of erasure. We must stand against it.
