If you’re looking for a way to contribute to a Black organization, but you don’t know where to start, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered! Keep scrolling for a list of Black orgs in Atlanta that you can donate to and support this Juneteenth (and alllll year round)! First, in case you don’t know: what is Juneteenth? And why do we celebrate it? Juneteenth celebrates and commemorates June 19th, 1865. On this date, Union troops finally arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved people there had already been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been purposely ignored by Texas enslavers. This long-overdue and momentous day has since been celebrated as a day of liberation, called ‘Juneteenth’ or ‘Freedom Day.’ It is a National Holiday.
