Three African Americans Appointed to University Faculty Positions

Dexter L. Blackman has been named director of African American and African diaspora studies at historically Black Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been with the university for the past six years, serving as an associate professor of history. Dr. Blackman is a two-time graduate of historically Black North Carolina Central University where he received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in history. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Georgia State University. Stephanie L. Henderson has been appointed chair of the department of education and psychology at historically Black Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She previously taught at Mississippi College for over eight years, and has a background in public school education and administration. Dr. Henderson is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she majored in economics. She holds an MBA from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and a doctorate in education leadership from Mississippi College. Yolanda Pierce has been named the Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Religion and Literature at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
