Three Black Men Appointed to Administrative Leadership Positions in Higher Education

Jaquion Gholston has been named assistant vice president for post award and University Affiliated Research Center operations at historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C. He most recently served as director of sponsored accounting and cost analysis at the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. Gholston holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Wingate University in North Carolina and a master’s degree in information management from Syracuse University in New York. Andrew Agwunobi has been appointed executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer of University of Connecticut Health. His appointment marks a return to the university, as he previously held the same role from 2014 to 2022. For the past two years, he has served as president of Home Solutions for Humana. Previously, he briefly served as interim president of the University of Connecticut, making him the first person of color to hold the position. Dr. Agwunobi received his medical degree from the University of Jos in Nigeria. He holds an MBA from Stanford University in California.
