On Wednesday, three male police officers were nursing injuries at the hospital after their vehicle veered off the road and down a precipice near Balembouche.
According to reports, the officers were on their way to a military funeral in Vieux Fort.
The road incident, which occurred at about midday, is said to have been the result of brake failure, raising concerns about vehicular safety for law enforcement.
Emergency services arrived promptly with two ambulances and a rescue unit and transported the officers to the hospital.
One officer had a suspected fractured right upper extremity and the other two had minor injuries.
There are no further details at present.
