Tyrone Smith, an accomplished musician and retired educator, lives his life with humility, care for others, and kindness. He loves his family, brings joy to others through his music, and is known for his energetic presence and affectionate smile. Smith was born on February 11, 1943, in Evanston, IL, just outside of Chicago. Around the age of five, his family moved to Memphis, TN, where he was educated in the Memphis City School System. By the age of 13, Smith was already performing at proms and school talent shows. Although he always had a love for sports, his small stature prevented him from playing, but it never deterred his energetic spirit. Instead, he channeled his enthusiasm into music and even coached basketball.

Smith matriculated to Tennessee State University in the 1960s, where he earned a degree in Health and Physical Education. He later married his high school sweetheart, Helen Smith, 57 years ago, and together they were blessed with a daughter, Attorney Prudence Smith Russell.
