Carl Allen, UMKC's Jazz Studies Professor, won the 2025 Ellis Marsalis, Jr. Educator of the Year Award from the Jazz Education Network. Allen, a former Juilliard artistic director, boasts over 225 recordings and a music degree from William Paterson University. The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education featured this achievement.
