More than 1200 supporters attended when UNCF (United Negro College Fund) held its 41st Annual Walk for Education recently along Chicago’s lakefront at South DuSable Lake Shore Drive at 39th Street in Burnham Park. The event raised more than $100,000, and the donation link to the Chicago Walk will remain open through Sept. 30. Visit www.uncf.org/chicagowalk, click register, then click donate. The beautiful lakefront, cool temperature, mellow winds and blue sky were perfect for the annual event. As in previous years, participants could choose a 5K walk/fun run or a 10K bike/skate course. “We are grateful for the level of participation at the Walk this year,” said Lisa M. Rollins, UNCF Regional Development Director. “However, demand for scholarships has never been greater. We still need support, and there is still time to donate to the Chicago Walk,” she said. Throughout the years, the family-friendly event has gone through several iterations but remains true to its goal—raising money for scholarships for Black, Brown, and other deserving students to get to and through college and supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
