In North Texas, families increasingly struggle with escalating grocery prices and declining food benefits. Hence, the collaboration between UNT Dallas and the North Texas Food Bank to provide monthly drive-thru food pantries has become essential. Scheduled for April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon (while supplies last), the initiative offers complimentary, nourishing food to all community members in need. Last month alone saw the distribution of roughly 23,000 pounds of sustenance to over 1,100 individuals, illustrating the critical demand for such support. Alarmingly, 1 in 6 children in the region experience food insecurity, contributing to Texas being the second-highest state for this issue. The mobile food pantry program, launched during the pandemic, continues to adapt and assist. Future dates are scheduled for May 16, June 20, and ongoing.
