The United States Department of State, in partnership with the Mississippi Consortium for International Development, recently hosted a conference through their International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) aimed at strengthening educational partnerships between African universities and historically Black colleges and universities. Last month, the IVLP hosted the 2024 Annual National HBCU Week Conference in Philadelphia. The conference was attended by African higher education faculty, administrators, and governmental officials from 11 different countries, as well as HBCU representatives. The participants met to discuss several topics, including educational nonprofit initiatives, best practices within governance, the legacy of HBCUs, and how to establish international collaborations between educational institutions. The Mississippi Consortium for International Development in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit organization run by Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, and Tougaloo College. The organization has partnered with the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to design and implement the IVLP since 1998.
