U.S. News and World Report recently issued its annual rankings of the best colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to its rankings of the best national universities and liberal arts colleges, the magazine ranks regional colleges and universities and also the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities.
For the eighteenth consecutive year, Spelman College in Atlanta was ranked as the best HBCU in the country. Howard University in Washington, D.C. was ranked second, Florida A&M University and Tuskegee University tied for third, and Morehouse College was fifth. These are the same HBCUs that rounded out the top five in last year’s rankings.
Other HBCUs in the top 10 are:
6. Xavier University of Louisiana
7. Hampton University
8. North Carolina A&T State University
9. Delaware State University
10. Morgan State University
Top-ranked HBCU Spelman College tied for 40th best liberal arts college in the country, down from 39th last year. Howard University tied for the 86th best national university, up from 115th place last year.
