In Maine, police took nearly five months to unveil body camera footage showing at least ten officers detaining a 16-year-old Black high school student at gunpoint, based solely on the claim he “matched the description” of a 19-year-old Black suspect linked to burglary charges. The boy's mother, Amber Miller, asserted that aside from their shared skin color, the two do not resemble each other. Miller expressed her displeasure, stating, “This absolutely was not justified.”Last week, the South Portland police released two body cam videos alongside dash cam footage depicting the student being apprehended while taking a stroll during his lunch break. The unnamed boy was ordered to comply with police commands, despite repeatedly questioning why he was being detained.Although the incident lasted about five minutes, it left him highly distressed. Police Chief Daniel Ahern maintained that officers acted properly, suggesting that their actions were aligned with protocols. Miller, however, voiced concerns over potential racial bias influencing police decisions.(Photo Body Cam)
