Making Choices: What Are We Prepared to Sacrifice for Fairness?

It is imperative that we take initiative in determining our path forward. Racism and sexism are longstanding issues in America. The ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans is not new; however, one party has chosen to neglect their responsibilities while citizens endure hardships. This neglect stems from an administration’s aversion to affordable healthcare, a legacy of Obama Care. President Barack Obama, alongside then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, championed the movement for accessible healthcare.I vividly recall the enthusiasm surrounding the bill’s naming process, as we affectionately transformed “Obama Cares” to Obama Care. During that memorable night, my late friend Dick Gregory and I witnessed the bill's passage amid vigorous debates, only to find Republican resistance growing. Despite years of failed initiatives, Donald Trump's vague healthcare plan continues to linger.We must unite, transcending party lines, to hold accountable those who obstruct our collective needs. As Obama aptly stated, “It’s on each of us to decide what we’re willing to do for our democracy.” The call to action is clear.
