The corporation apologised on Tuesday after an extensive external investigation by Gemma White KC uncovered “missed opportunities” that could have led to action.
The BBC said there were “instances where the organisation missed opportunities that might have led to action,” even while the review found “no widespread or significant BBC knowledge of allegations or concerns about predatory sexual behaviour”.
It added: “The organisation fell short and failed people – including our own staff – who had a right to expect better from us,” the statement said.
“The board [wants] to take this opportunity to apologise on behalf of the entire BBC to anyone impacted by what the review has found. Your voice has been heard, and the findings of the review will further fuel the drive to ensure it does not happen again.”
He was first interviewed in March 2023 about the offences alleged to have taken place in London between 1982 and 2016.
He was questioned again a month later under caution over the alleged incidents.
The hip-hop DJ has previously strongly denied “all allegations of inappropriate behaviour” and wrongdoing.
