From Words to Violence: New York Woman's Sinister Social Media Clues Before Florida Murder

A 31-year-old woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for traveling from New York to Florida to murder her ex-boyfriend's new partner. Sakiyna Thompson was found guilty of first-degree murder in October after she fatally stabbed 23-year-old Kayla Hodgson in July 2022. Thompson claimed self-defense, yet the jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict within an hour. Prosecutors revealed that she flew to Broward County with the premeditated intention to kill Hodgson out of jealousy. Family members testified that Thompson obsessively monitored Hodgson’s social media and her ex-boyfriend's phone activity. During her trial, Thompson insisted she only sought to confront Hodgson. She alleged that Hodgson attacked her first during an uninvited visit to Hodgson's apartment. Autopsy reports confirmed Hodgson suffered numerous stab wounds.
