A coffee shop in New Orleans has become the center of a racial controversy after a Black correspondent for HBCU Pulse experienced harassment from the manager over allegedly lingering too long without making a purchase.On July 18, Destinee Kerr, also known as “thatgirlnamedes_” on TikTok, was working at Rue De La Course, a well-known café in Uptown. While completing a video for a deadline, the white manager approached her, demanding she make an immediate purchase.Despite being a regular patron and indicating her intent to buy post-project, manager Danielle threatened to involve the police. Kerr documented the tense encounter, appearing visibly upset.In her TikTok posts, she recounted how she was asked to leave despite unoccupied tables. Following her viral videos, a heated discussion erupted, with many advocating a boycott, while others sided with the café.
