In a thrilling opener of the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-17 50-Over Championship, the Windward Islands narrowly lost to Jamaica by four runs. The match took place at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. Led by captain Theo Edward, who scored 36 runs, Windward Islands faced a challenging task after Jamaica posted 217-9. Tyler Venner and Bjorn Fanis combined for five wickets, with Venner remarkable in the early overs, claiming three wickets as Jamaica struggled to find momentum. Despite a spirited 70 from Ryan Littleton, Jamaica faced a batting collapse.As rain interrupted play, the revised target for Windward Islands became 122 in 23 overs. Though starting strong at 62 without loss, they lost critical wickets, including Edward and Damali Phillips, both key contributors. In the end, Windward Islands managed only 117-5, with Johnathan Daniel adding 22 runs. Their next challenge awaits against hosts Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday at Gilbert Park.
