By Williamena Kwapo | OBSERVER Staff WriterWord In Black on Sept. 10 hosted a livestream analysis of the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. “Debate Night in Black America: A Virtual Conversation” was created to engage African Americans during this critical election season.The livestream, moderated by Word In Black Managing Director Liz Courquet-Lesaulnier and Deputy Managing Director Joseph Williams, provided a platform for insightful discussion and analysis specifically centered on Black viewers.Streamed before and after the ABC-hosted debate, “Debate Night” featured commentary and perspectives tailored to the unique experiences and concerns of Black people.& Mason Reese, a junior at Sacramento State University, shares his thoughts on the presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris during the Word in Black Watch Party at the Black Honors College on Sept. 10, 2024. “I consider myself an open-minded person…but I’m pretty confident I know who I’m voting for in this election,” he said when asked if the debate swayed his views on choosing a candidate.
