The wreckage of a single-engine plane that crashed into the sea en route to Saint Lucia from Bequia has been recovered. The small plane, piloted and owned by Robert Sachs of Bequia, crashed on January 4, 2024. Sachs and three passengers, Hollywood actor Christian Klepser (also known as Christian Oliver), 51, from the United States of America, and his two daughters, Madita Klepser and Annik Klepser, 10 and 12 years old, died when the aircraft plunged into the sea West of Petit Nevis. The crash occurred after the plane departed J.F. Mitchell Airport in Paget Farm for Saint Lucia. A police statement gave credit to the ‘valiant efforts’ of Bequia fishermen and divers who recovered the bodies from the wreckage and handed them to the Coast Guard shortly after the tragedy. The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCA) is investigating what caused the aircraft to crash into the sea off Bequia.
