Conservative CNN analyst Scott Jennings faced scrutiny during a panel on “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip” regarding President Donald Trump’s recent announcement to deploy the National Guard to Washington, D.C., aimed at addressing crime in the city. Trump declared, “We’re taking our capital back,” while asserting federal control over the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.Although Trump suggested this action marked “Liberation Day” for D.C., crime rates in the capital have actually declined, as reported by recent statistics. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser described the measures as “unsettling and unprecedented.”As tensions mounted, panelist Tara Setmayer criticized Trump’s claims of supporting law enforcement, invoking the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, where officers faced violence from Trump supporters.
