New Jersey Teen Achieves Perfect SAT Score at 17: Good Job Young Man

NATIONWIDE — Sahli Negassi, a 17-year-old African American student from West Orange, New Jersey, has achieved an extraordinary milestone by scoring an impeccable 1600 on the SAT. This accomplishment places him within the elite group of less than 1% of test-takers nationwide. Originally from Manhattan and raised in West Orange, Sahli's academic path began at Mount Pleasant and St. Cloud elementary schools. He forwent preschool, attributing his foundational knowledge to textbooks borrowed from his older siblings. Experiencing the moment of his perfect score was surreal for Sahli. “I exited my first-period class and instantly called my mom,” he recounted to WOBOE. “I shared it with a classmate but jokingly suggested it was Photoshopped. It remains hard to believe, but mostly, I felt relief — I proved to myself what’s achievable.” His preparation largely stemmed from independent study, utilizing free platforms like Khan Academy and YouTube, complemented by challenging AP courses.
