49ers’ Would-Be QB Also Spurned By Fate

The pain San Francisco 49ers fans feel from the 25-22 overtime loss to Niners killer Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII still lingers.
This loss was extremely painful and adds to the 49ers’ recent run of heartbreak in Super Bowls and NFC championship games.
Mahomes broke their hearts four years ago in the Super Bowl when he led the Chiefs to a 31-20, come-from-behind win.
While this Super Bowl was a big disappointment for the players, coaches and Niner fans everywhere, I couldn’t help but think about how former Niner quarterback Trey Lance must feel as he watched Brock Purdy star as the 49ers quarterback.
As most of you know, Lance was the third pick of the 2021 draft out of North Dakota State. The 49ers invested a lot of draft capital to move up to pick Lance, even though he had limited college experience. General Manager John Lynch gave up three first-round picks to obtain the strong-armed Lance. However, Lance from the start had problems getting on the field as the Niners QB.
