French naval vessels Le Germinal and La Combatante have seized 8.3 tonnes of cocaine during patrols in the Caribbean Sea.
One of the three seizures occurred on the high seas off Martinique.
The surveillance frigate Le Germinal seized over 6 tonnes of cocaine, while La Combatante seized over 2 tonnes.
The Forces Armées Aux Antilles Facebook page declared that “These first seizures of 8.3 tonnes in just 9 days in 2024 showcase the state’s unwavering determination to relentlessly combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean and the Atlantic.”
The Facebook post also highlighted that the drug seizures were the result of close international and inter-ministerial cooperation.
As per Martinique media, French Navy officials offloaded dozens of bales of cocaine seized by La Combattante from a sailboat last week Monday.
Two days earlier, the frigate Le Germinal returned to base with over 6 tonnes of cocaine recovered from two fishing vessels.
Several suspects are presently in custody, and they will face trial soon.
