FROGANG IN UGANDA—Nyla Alton, Samaudi Archibald, and Kelli Shakur hold a sign alongside Dr. Jamil Bey, Clara Kitongo, Kenzie Hawkins, Done Royster, and Auvai Archibald. Occasionally, the universe orchestrates interactions that yield delightful surprises. A remarkable collaboration materialized when Dr. Jamil Bey of the UrbanKind Institute teamed up with Erin Huber, Executive Director of “Drink Local Drink Tap,” along with the Pittsburgh nonprofit “Frogang.” Empowered girls from Beltzhoover ventured from Pittsburgh to Uganda, embarking on a transformative cultural journey. Leaving on June 14, they returned on June 28. The trip aimed to tackle water accessibility, assist in tree planting, and deliver food to an orphanage. Engaging with local students and experiencing daily water-fetching routines provided invaluable insights into Ugandan life. Fundraising efforts, including a concert featuring Kitongo, successfully amassed over $16,000, aiding them in building essential facilities and fostering cross-cultural connections.
