By Sym Posey | The Birmingham Times This weekend, the Alabama Greek Picnic (ALGP) brought together members of the Pan-Hellenic Council and others in Birmingham for a vibrant array of activities, including a significant community service project, a lively day party, family-friendly events, a stroll competition, nightlife entertainment, and moments for worship. From August 21 to 24, these gatherings fostered an environment of fellowship and networking among both Greek and non-Greek participants. “Bringing this exposure to Birmingham has been phenomenal,” expressed Shumaine Pruitt, co-founder of ALGP, alongside her husband TeMarcus. Their efforts aim to attract visitors to Birmingham annually, enhancing its cultural landscape. The main picnic on August 23 at Sloss Furnaces showcased amusing games like musical chairs and tug of war, engaging participants in spirited fun. Beyond festivities, ALGP emphasizes community contributions, as the Pruitts weave a nonprofit aspect into the event, advancing local initiatives, scholarships, and essential resources for those in need.
