John Carroll Catholic High School celebrated the completion of a $15 million upgrade to its athletic facilities, coinciding with the unveiling of the inaugural Heisman Memorial Trophy plaque dedicated to alumnus Pat Sullivan. Sullivan, who made a significant impact as a Cavalier and at Auburn University during the late 1960s and early ’70s, was honored following his passing on December 1, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. Notably, John Carroll holds the distinction of being the sole high school nationwide permitted to exhibit the official Heisman logo on its football field, which was named in Sullivan’s honor in 2016. The enhancements feature Shaw Sports Turf NXT 2.0, a Benyon 100 track, and the largest Daktronics video scoreboard in any Alabama high school. Additional developments included a 9,000-square-foot strength and performance center and upgraded baseball facilities. Funded by the John Carroll Excellence in Athletics Foundation, these renovations will support all athletic programs and local youth sports initiatives.
