Armed bandits have abducted over 300 students from a private Catholic institution in Niger State, Nigeria, marking a disturbing trend of mass kidnappings that has garnered attention from the U.S. Trump administration. Authorities report that, initially, some students escaped during the assault on Friday. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirmed 303 students and 12 teachers were taken, raising the previously reported number of 215. Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna revealed that many of the captured students, aged 10 to 18, were seized while attempting to flee.
In response to this alarming incident, several government-run schools in northern Nigeria are briefly closing to prevent further abductions. Concurrently, a similar attack in Kwara State resulted in fatalities and kidnappings, while 25 female students were taken from a government boarding school in Kebbi State. Nigerian officials have condemned these acts, stressing that measures are enacted to enhance security and safeguard vulnerable populations against ongoing threats.
