Corinth residents were jolted awake on Sunday as gunshots shattered the early morning silence of the community.
The gunfire stemmed from a failed robbery attempt at a well-known business in the community at about 1:30 am, leaving one of two armed assailants dead after licensed firearm holders confronted the intruders.
According to a witness who spoke to St. Lucia Times, the incident unfolded when two men stormed the business, brandishing firearms and demanding valuables. However, their plans were quickly thwarted.
“We were inside, and two men entered wielding guns, wanting to rob the place, but two licensed firearm holders opened fire. They ran, but one of them was shot. The other escaped,” the witness recounted.
The wounded gunman collapsed just a few yards from the business, succumbing to injuries sustained during the incident. His body was discovered lifeless on the pavement, with a firearm nearby.
Crime scene investigators swiftly cordoned off the area, restricting access to both pedestrians and motorists as they processed the scene. The incident marks the 75th homicide for the year as 2024 draws to a close.
The escape of the second suspect remains under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
