Collin Scott is a 21-year-old multimedia visual artist based in Redmond, Washington. He focuses on themes of mental health, substance abuse, grief and daily life with influences from graffiti, abstract expressionism and popular culture. Seattle Refined: How long have you been creating? What mediums do you work with?Scott: I have been creating my whole life, whether that be doodling on a piece of homework in grade school or creating small ceramic pieces and paintings as a kid. I really started to take my art seriously about five years ago at the beginning of the pandemic in 2019. Can you tell us about your artistic process and how the different stages work into it?My process consists of about four steps depending on what I am making — always starting in the sketchbook and then refining that sketch to get a better idea of what I am trying to make, then creating a sketch on a canvas or a “skeleton” of a sculpture, and finishing it off with the production and craftsmanship to execute the final piece.
