A Texas assistant principal was left blinded in one eye after an “irate” student threw a hanger at her, WFAA reports.
Candra Rogers, the assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana, was responding to a report concerning a student who assaulted one of their peers in the classroom on August 15 when she was injured.
The student threw several chairs at Rogers before throwing a hanger, which hit her in the eye.
“The hanger hit me in my right eye and knocked it out of the socket,” Rogers said. “I grabbed my face while blood was pouring out of my head and stumbled out of the classroom door.”
Following the incident, Rogers was flown to a hospital for treatment. The assistant principal said doctors told her she is likely permanently blind in one eye and she needs to have reconstructive surgery on her eyelid. If she’s permanently blind, Rogers said doctors may need to remove her eye.
“I am still believing God for a miracle for restoration of my sight,” Rogers said.
The student was taken into custody following the incident. The case was referred to the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office and the Juvenile Probation Department....
