Birmingham City Schools has unveiled its policy regarding complimentary and reduced-price meals for children participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program. “Healthy meals are essential for academic success. Birmingham City Schools provides nutritious meals every school day,” stated Michelle Sailes, Director of Child Nutrition. Breakfast and lunch offerings will adhere to the healthy meal guidelines set by the USDA, encouraging student participation.For the 2025-2026 academic year, Birmingham City Schools will once again engage in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This USDA initiative allows BCS students to access meal programs without incurring costs or submitting applications. CEP, part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, eliminates application requirements in low-income areas, enabling free breakfast and lunch for all students. This ensures students are well-nourished and ready to learn.Classes commence on August 7 for the 2025-26 school year. Parents are urged to register now, with extended help desk hours available at Lincoln Professional Development Center.
