Amidst bites of a croissant slathered in strawberry jam, Birmingham's own Roy Wood Jr. occupies a hotel room in Washington, D.C., anticipating his flight to New York. Recently completing a comedy tour at U.S. Air Force bases and a brief trip to Scotland for a conference, the comedian, actor, and writer pivots to discussing his new film, “Love, Brooklyn.” This film screens from September 5–18 at Birmingham’s Sidewalk Cinema. In this film, Wood portrays Alan, the married best friend of the main character, Roger, played by fellow Alabamian Andre Holland. Wood notes, “The women have just as much power as Andre’s character,” emphasizing a fresh narrative about self-empowerment in love.Although Wood has acted in two prior projects that bypassed theaters, “Love, Brooklyn” boasts a broader cinematic release, something he considers a proud milestone. His upcoming endeavors include a book tour for “The Man of Many Fathers” and returning for a third season on CNN’s “Have I Got News For You.”
